Size guide for plank tables

It can be difficult to decide what size plank table to choose, as our homes and dining rooms vary considerably. It is therefore crucial that you choose a plank table that closely matches your desired seating capacity and the available floor space you have available.
Our goal with this guide is to help you gain greater clarity about this choice. Enjoy reading!
Five good tips for choosing the size of a plank table
Before we go into depth about the different sizes of plank tables, here are five quick tips worth considering before deciding on the length and width of your next plank table.
1) 60 cm per person
A good rule of thumb when calculating seating capacity at your plank table is to allow approximately 60 cm per person. Within this dimension there will be enough space for most chairs and enough elbow room to allow for conversations with large arm movements!

2) Table width + 150 cm = living room width
Regardless of the width of your living room, we have a handy rule of thumb to follow if you're unsure of the maximum width your plank table should be. We typically recommend 75 cm on each side of the table to pull out the chair, push the chair in, and move around the table without having to stick to the walls.
Example: A plank table 90 cm wide (including the 150 cm free space for chairs) must be placed in a dining table area that is 240 cm deep to fit optimally.

3) Let your home decide
When we go through the different sizes, we will give recommendations regarding length in relation to number of people, width in relation to living area and recommended length in relation to width. However, it is important to underline that the appropriate size of your plank table is very subjective and should first and foremost be adapted to your individual wishes.
Our recommendations are based solely on our own experience and should not be the deciding factor in your final decision. If you have a specific length and width that perfectly suits your aesthetic preferences and/or living room decor, this should be your primary point of departure.
4) Additional boards of the same wood
If you have space for a wooden table that can accommodate all kinds of events without being a hindrance in everyday life, you should consider choosing a large wooden table. However, it can be practical that the wooden table does not take up too much space in everyday life, but can still be extended when there are guests.
To meet this need, we have developed an easy-to-assemble and removable extension table, so you can always create space for the whole family as needed. We ensure that the planks for both the plank table and the extension table are cut from the same piece of wood, which provides a continuous structure on both the edges and in the grain patterns. This creates a natural and smooth transition from tabletop to extension table.
5) Bench the entire team
Chairs are manufactured with a fixed width and are generally only built for one person. Therefore, you will have difficulty finding space for more people at the table than there are chairs.
The same conditions do not apply to a bench, as there are no armrests or similar to separate people. You will therefore be more flexible in your seating capacity if you complete the dining table arrangement with a bench on one side.

Length of plank tables
When calculating how many people your plank table should accommodate, the length is the starting point.
Plank table for 4 people (120-170 cm)
Within a plank table length of 120-170 cm, depending on the chair width, there will typically be room for two people on each side and one person at each end for everyday use. We generally recommend a minimum length of 140 cm, as this allows space for two chairs (of most widths) along the length of the long side.
A length of 140 cm therefore provides optimal seating capacity in minimal space. For lengths of 140 cm and above, there will naturally be more elbow room for people on the long side and more free space for any chairs at the ends.
Plank table for 6 people (180-230 cm)
Generally, a plank table with a length of 180-220 cm can accommodate six to eight people. However, our most popular length is 200 cm, as this allows space for three chairs (of most widths) along the length of the long side and comfortable space for two chairs at the ends.
A length of 180 cm will offer the same seating capacity with relatively narrow chairs, while lengths over 200 cm free up more space for the person sitting next to you.
Plank table for 8 people (240-290 cm)
An ideal size for a plank table is 250-260 cm, which provides space for four people on both long sides and possibly one person at each end of the table. At a length of 240 cm, the same number of people can sit, depending on the width of the chairs, as on tables that are 10-20 cm longer.
Plank table for 10 people (300-340 cm)
Plank tables with a length of 3 meters offer basic space for five people on each long side and two people at each end - these stately tables are built to host all kinds of events!

Plank table for 12-14 people (350-400 cm)
If you want a plank table for 12 people, with six chairs on each side, we recommend a length of 350-380 cm. In some cases, there may also be room for seven chairs on each side, but this depends on the width of your chairs.
If you want to be sure that there is room for seven chairs on each side, we recommend that you choose a length of around 380-400 cm. These types of tables can accommodate up to 16 people, with seven chairs on each side and one chair at each end.
Width of plank tables
Unlike the length, the width does not affect the number of people that can sit around the plank table. Nevertheless, the width has an impact on the table's aesthetics and the available table space.
75 cm (suitable length: 120-140 cm)
The relatively narrow plank tables with a width of 75 cm are suitable as both dining tables and desks. As a dining table, 75 cm is an ideal solution, especially if your living room or kitchen has limited width and requires that the plank table takes up minimal space in width. At the same time, 75 cm is sufficient to provide comfortable space for two people facing each other with a place setting in between.
When it is solely about the aesthetic aspect of the plank table, a tabletop length of 120-140 cm is considered most appropriate for a width of 75 cm.
80 cm (suitable length: 150-170 cm)
Plank tables with a width of 80 cm are usually a bit too wide to function as desks, but they are ideal as dining tables in rooms with limited width. There will be enough space for setting the table without the crockery being crowded, and the tabletop will not take up unnecessary space in width.
From an aesthetic point of view, we recommend lengths of 150-170 cm for plank tables with a width of 80 cm.
90 cm (suitable length: 180-240 cm)
Our most popular plank tables typically have a width of 90 cm and a length of 180-240 cm. These dimensions fit well into different types of living rooms, both in houses and apartments, and are therefore often preferred. The interaction between the relatively long and wide planks creates a beautiful and aesthetic whole that fully reflects the essence of a plank table.
We therefore recommend a length of 180-240 cm for our 90 cm wide plank tables to achieve the optimal visual and practical experience.
100 cm (suitable length: 250-400 cm)
The plank tables, which extend over several meters, offer maximum table space for any gathering or event. The extra centimeters in width also create extra space at the ends of the table, where you have the option of placing two narrow chairs next to each other. This is ideal for occasions when you want to utilize the entire surface of the table.
With a width of 100 cm, the two planks have optimal space to showcase their raw and natural structure. In combination with an appropriate length, this creates a majestic aura. We recommend a length of 250-400 cm for plank tables with a width of one meter to ensure optimal visual and functional experience.
