Inspiration for chairs and benches for the plank table

Chairs for the plank table
When choosing chairs for a plank table, it's important to consider both design and materials. Fabric chairs can add a soft contrast and warmth to the rustic wood, while wooden chairs can emphasize a cohesive and harmonious design expression that highlights the table's natural elements.
Below you can see some practical and visual examples of how different wooden and fabric chairs can influence the design around your plank table:

Wooden chairs
We offer elegant wooden chairs with seats in exclusive Italian calf leather, upholstered with 30 mm foam for optimal seating comfort. The chairs have a standard seat height of 45 cm, but if you need a customized height, we are always ready to help - please contact us for a special solution.
Our wooden chairs are available in both solid oak and European walnut, and you can choose between the colors black, dark, natural and white, so you can easily find the perfect match for your interior.

Fabric chairs
We offer a range of fabric chairs , made from durable microfibre fabric with black steel legs. The seats are padded with 50 mm foam, which ensures optimal seating comfort, while the quilted stitching adds a modern and elegant look. All our fabric chairs have a standard seat height of 45 cm.
Our fabric chairs are available in the colors gray, brown and black, and you can choose them with or without armrests.
How far should there be between the chairs?
When planning your seating arrangement, it's important to consider both comfort and design balance. A good rule of thumb is to allow approximately 60 cm per person at your plank table.
Within this distance, there is usually enough space for most chairs, while still providing enough elbow room for comfortable conversations – even with large arm movements!
If you often have guests, chairs without armrests can be a practical solution, as they allow you to place more chairs around the table without compromising on space and aesthetics.

Benches for the plank table
Chairs are designed with a fixed width, and each chair is typically designed to seat one person. This means that the number of people at the table is limited by the number of chairs. A bench, on the other hand, gives you more flexibility, as there are no armrests or boundaries separating people.
By adding a bench to one side of the table, you can easily adjust the seating and create space for more guests – perfect for social gatherings or larger dinners. Plus, a bench is a stylish alternative to traditional chairs and goes perfectly with the rustic plank table.
At Plankoa you can find benches made of oak, European walnut or pine. The color choices range from black and white to natural and dark, and you have the option to customize both the edge design and legs to your wishes. See our full selection of benches here .

How to choose the right size for your bench
When choosing the length of your bench, a good rule of thumb is to go for about two-thirds of the length of the plank table. This saves space and makes it easier to push the bench under the table. However, if you want maximum seating capacity, it may be an advantage to have the bench as long as the table.
Our benches are available in several sizes, and we also offer tailor-made solutions according to your needs. All benches are made from 40 mm solid oak planks, FSC-certified for sustainability, kiln-dried for durability and treated with Rubio Monocoat oil for maximum wear resistance.
Mix of chairs and benches for a unique look
Combining chairs and benches at your wooden table can be both practical and stylish. It creates a dynamic expression that breaks with tradition and adds a unique personality to the room. A bench on one side of the table creates an informal and social environment where several people can sit close together, while chairs on the other side provide individuality and comfort.

You can also experiment with different materials and styles. For example, a wooden bench combined with fabric chairs can create an exciting contrast between the raw and the soft. This allows you to customize the dining room for both aesthetics and functionality, while adding a personal touch.
Should chairs and benches match the wood type and color of your plank table?
If you want a cohesive and harmonious look in your dining room, it might be a good idea to choose chairs and benches that match the plank table in both wood type and color. For example, oak chairs and benches combined with a plank table in the same wood type will create a natural and elegant whole. This uniform style creates visual calm and gives the room a classic and timeless look.
But you can also choose to experiment with contrasts by combining different types of wood or colors. This adds personality and life to the interior and can create a more modern and playful expression. The choice depends entirely on what atmosphere you want to create – whether it is a stylish and uniform look or a more dynamic and eclectic environment. There is no answer, as long as you think it looks good!
